Greeting Card Ideas that Toddlers Can Make!

It has recently been my little boy’s second birthday and he was so lucky to receive some lovely gifts!

So, now I would like to thank everyone, but with a personal touch.

 These five card ideas are handmade to give thanks to some special people! Although I have focused on thank you cards, I have added other occasions that each idea would work well for. 

 Handmade is not only less expensive, but also turns the process into a fun activity and a good way to keep little ones entertained even on a rainy day. It also reminds your child that it is nice to send cards to those we love. The best part is they are not too complicated, so even very little fingers can get involved.

 1. A Bunch of Flowers

What better way to say thank you to someone than with a bunch of flowers and these bunches will last forever!

Simply get your card and some green paint. Let your child paint their own hand (or paint it for them if you prefer it to be less messy) and press it into the center of the card to create a green handprint. Then get some crayons/felt tips/a paintbrush out and create colorful little flowers at the end of each finger. Alternatively, you could do a pink/red/any color handprint and paint the middle of the hand yellow for a handprint of a single flower. Both work well and are very effective. Then write your message around the print. This would also be very well received on Mother’s Day. 

2. A Bunch of Balloons

The more colors the better for this one so get together all your paints! Paint your little one’s fingers in bright colors and print little dots all over the front of your card. You can even do a few yourself. Then draw little wiggly lines underneath each print as this will be the balloons string. You could write ‘thanks a bunch’ or ‘from the bunch of us’ with this one. This would also work well for a ‘congratulations’ or any kind of celebration card! 

3. Tape Words

Another colorful idea is to get some masking tape, cut onto lots of little pieces and make up the words ‘thank you’ on a blank card beforehand. Then let your little one go to town on it with whatever paint colors and techniques they want. When it is dry, peel off the masking tape and you should have a secret white message underneath. You could write out any words first. This would be a good ‘happy birthday’ card if you are feeling ambitious with your tape.

4. With Love

This is similar to the above idea in terms of creative freedom for kids. Let them paint all over a sheet of paper and cover it as much as possible with color. Then, once it is dry, cut a heart shape out and stick it onto a blank piece of card for a simple yet effective act of love. (Make sure an adult uses the scissors). Then write your message around or even straight onto the heart. You could paint the paper green and cut out Christmas tree shapes for a festive twist. 

5. Blow a Kiss

A little 3D card that isn’t too tricky, but make sure an adult uses the scissors.

Get your little one to place their hand on a piece of card. Draw around it and cut it out. Fold a thin section at the bottom (near the wrist) of the card hand and glue this bit to your card or paper. Write ‘blowing you a kiss’ on or above the hand and pull it down to reveal a section where you can write your message. This illustration of love could also be used for Valentine’s Day.
